Students,
I am guessing many of you have already tried this, if not, please do and comment. I will try and help… though at present the implementation and roll out of this great new service is a bit of a MESS!
Please read this post with my comments that include some early observations in my experience.. NO LIABILITY MYSIDE PLEASE .. try it, if it works great, if not … sorry for you .. just sayin!
Below taken from another site, with comments added from my experience in ().
With the official launch of WhatsApp Calling, the process of triggering the feature to be activated is to receive a call from another WhatsApp user that already has the feature unlocked (seems to be you can just upgrade to 2.12.5 or 2.12.7)? However, if the user being called up does not have the latest version of WhatsApp installed, a notification will be sent to request the user to update the app before the call is made (I tried this and I got a notification?).
According to Android news website Android Police, after a user receives a call from another WhatsApp user with the WhatsApp Calling feature already activated, the user interface for the app changes, either instantly or after the user closes and then re-opens WhatsApp. The new user interface displays three tabs, labeled as calls, chats and contacts. (I re-started my phone and got the above photo interface … not as described here, but seems to work?)
The call feature has been integrated well into WhatsApp, with the tab for WhatsApp Calling showing all incoming, outgoing and missed calls with their exact times. Calls that are ongoing are placed in the app’s notification panel until the call is ended, and calls that are missed leave notifications that can later be checked by the user. While in a call, users can choose to mute their microphones or to turn on the loudspeaker.
Accessing the call feature can be done through the messages with any of the user’s contact, as a call button will appear as one of the options in the action bar for that user beside the attach option and the menu. (true – though not sure if a normal phone voice call or whatsapp call)
Users that tap on the avatar of a contact will also be shown a profile image of the user that is bigger in size, with options of either sending them a message or calling them displayed, along with viewing their information. (True – see image above)
The call button for contacts now leads by default to a WhatApp call, as opposed to a smartphone call in the past. (TRUE)
It seems the whatsapp chat is live and working, but we will only know if worthwhile when we see the BILL! Tread carefully and let us know any issues so we can keep everyone informed. I repeat, the implementation of this is not simple to understand / check nor is it the same on the 3 phones I have…
Good Luck

Students
Please remember that you are working on behalf of Rent-a-Student. This means that we pay you directly and NOT the employer. PLEASE DO NOT contact the employer. Rent-a-Student have a Tax directive from SARS in terms of remuneration meaning unless you earn over R70,700 (in 2015) we do not need to submit your details to SARS. If you are paid directly by the employer you should register with SARS and pay tax (you can reclaim at year end).
For jobs that are published with the employers details, Rent-a-Student is not involved so it is up to you to sort out any SARS / tax issues.
We now fill about 1,000 jobs a month, so please follow the instructions above.

Money for Nothing?
When I say a little, I mean a little, however it is free money … just takes some effort and a little time. Here are a couple of examples. BEWARE any money making project where you have to pay up-front!! chances are the other person is making the money and you make zip!
The first example is Panel Station, it is a survey organisation with nice friendly software. Basically, you sign up and get emailed surveys to take. I signed up 4 months ago to test it out as I did not want students bring scammed. Basically it does what it says. To date I have 4,760 points which is R240 ish. Taken me probably 20-30 hours to make this so like I say … a little!
The second is . We recently added some ads to the site (annoying I know), but we are earning R30-50 a day for doing nothing so I guess it is worth it? Anyways, adsense is easy to set up all you need is a popular website or blog, then hope your visitors will click on the odd advert.

Happy New Year – 2015
Rent-a-Student wishes all students a fantastic and prosperous 2015!!!
Many thanks to the thousands of students who have worked with Rent-a-Student in 2014. We are now posting +/- 500 positions a week and have over 43,000 students registered. If you have not registered yet PLEASE do so (you have more chance of work if we have your details – which are 100% private and secure).
We aim to bring more employers to the table and serve students even better in 2015. IN 2014 we worked with almost all the major high street brands, plus McDonalds, Jenna Clifford, Telkom and Hospice to mention but a few … they ALL loved your hard work, dedication and initiative .. keep up the great work! Students who work with Rent-a-Student have a much better chance of employment after graduation – FACT.
Remember:
Students should be paid a minimum of R40 per hour (I know from experience this is achievable and deserved – you guys and gals rock!) – jobs offered at less than this amount are not directly through Rent-a-Student but we sometimes publish them (job is a job to some), but really, R40 per hour is what students should be looking for as a minimum wage.
NEVER EVER pay for a job! anyone asking for a fee upfront is NOT a genuine employer – we see this especially for data entry jobs (R100 for a pack and you can earn R5,000 a month – the old saying is so true – if it looks to good to be true, it probably is … don’t get caught)!
Always check out jobs, don’t go to interviews if the job sounds off e.g. model required for photoshot at xyz location or data entry work from home R5,000+ etc..
Turn up on-time and be professional – it could be a future employer
Keep a record of your hours and any issues encountered
Contact us if you need a reference in future
ENJOY 31st Dec 2014 and get ready for 2015

Last post for 2014 – NEVER Give-up!
Remember this …. there is one thing all radically successful people have in common: Their ferocious drive and hunger for success makes them never give up.
Successful people often paint a picture of the perfect ascent to success. In fact, some of the most successful people in business, entertainment and sport have failed. Many have failed numerous times but they have never given up. Successful people are able to pick themselves up, dust themselves off and carry on trying.
Let’s look at some examples…
Henry Ford – the pioneer of modern business entrepreneurs and the founder of the Ford Motor Company failed a number of times on his route to success. His first venture to build a motor car got dissolved a year and a half after it was started because the stockholders lost confidence in Henry Ford. Ford was able to gather enough capital to start again but a year later pressure from the financiers forced him out of the company again. Despite the fact that the entire motor industry had lost faith in him he managed to find another investor to start the Ford Motor Company – and the rest is history.
Walt Disney – one of the greatest business leaders who created the global Disney empire of film studios, theme parks and consumer products didn’t start off successful. Before the great success came a number of failures. Believe it or not, Walt was fired from an early job at the Kansas City Star Newspaper because he was not creative enough! In 1922 he started his first company called Laugh-O-Gram. The Kansas based business would produce cartoons and short advertising films. In 1923, the business went bankrupt. Walt didn’t give up, he packed up, went to Hollywood and started The Walt Disney Company.
Richard Branson – He is undoubtedly a successful entrepreneur with many successful ventures to his name including Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Music and Virgin Active. However, when he was 16 he dropped out of school to start a student magazine that didn’t do as well as he hoped. He then set up a mail-order record business which did so well that he opened his own record shop called Virgin. Along the way to success came many other failed ventures including Virgin Cola, Virgin Vodka, Virgin Clothes, Virgin Vie, Virgin cards, etc.
Oprah Winfrey – who ranks No 1 in the Forbes celebrity list and is recognised as the queen of entertainment based on an amazing career as iconic talk show host, media proprietor, actress and producer. In her earlier career she had numerous set-backs, which included getting fired from her job as a reporter because she was ‘unfit for television’, getting fired as co-anchor for the 6 O’clock weekday news on WJZ-TV and being demoted to morning TV.
J.K. Rowling – who wrote the Harry Potter books selling over 400 million copies and making it one of the most successful and lucrative book and film series ever. However, like so many writers she received endless rejections from publishers. Many rejected her manuscript outright for reasons like ‘it was far too long for a children’s book’ or because ‘children books never make any money’. J.K. Rowling’s story is even more inspiring because when she started she was a divorced single mum on welfare.
Bill Gates -co-founder and chairman of Microsoft set up a business called Traf-O-Data. The partnership between him, Paul Allen and Paul Gilbert was based on a good idea (to read data from roadway traffic counters and create automated reports on traffic flows) but a flawed business model that left the company with few customers. The company ran up losses between 1974 and 1980 before it was closed. However, Bill Gates and Paul Allen took what they learned and avoided those mistakes when they created the Microsoft empire.
History is littered with many more similar examples
So, the one thing successful people never do is: Give up! I hope that this is inspiration and motivation for everyone who aspires to be successful in whatever way they chose.
Have a great 2015 from Rent-a-Student ……
